Week 1 Monday Morning Thoughts
Indianapolis 20 Houston 20 F/OT
Ties are terrible but this game deserved to be a tie. Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 42-yard game-winning field goal in overtime after Houston blew a 20-3 lead in the 4th quarter. Neither team deserved to win but a red flag on the Colts this year.
New Orleans 27 Atlanta 26
Pain. Remarkable comeback for Jameis and Michael Thomas is still a top 10 wide receiver in football.
New England 7 Miami 20
The Mike McDaniel era is off to a good start I can't quite call it great. Tua might hold this team back. The Pats looked all kinds of discombobulated everywhere.
Tampa Bay 19 Dallas 3
The Sunday night debut of the new permanent play-by-play commentator for Sunday Night Football gets the biggest dud of Sunday. Dak is hurt so now the Cowboys season is over (Not actually in the NFC East). Brady and the Bucs didn't look that great but it's week 1 let's not overreact. Nice to see Julio Jones making an impact again.
San Francisco 10 Chicago 19
The Trey Lance parade got rained on in week 1. I'm not ready to write off Lance but he does have to show a lot soon before the questions about Jimmy G arise.
Baltimore 24 NY Jets 9
Lamar Jackson's contract extension tour has a great start getting to play the Jets and his former teammate, Joe Flacco, 10 years after his super bowl run and subsequent contract extension. Did Baltimore look great? No, but they have a test of playoff wills in week 2.
Green Bay 7 Minnesota 23
Aaron Rodgers should get his R-E-L-A-X speech ready. Justin Jefferson looked like prime Minnesota Randy Moss against that Green Bay defence. I'm not prepared to hand Minnesota the NFC North crown just yet, let's give it a couple weeks.
Kansas City 44 Arizona 21
Everyone who doubted the Chiefs going into this season got partially exposed in week 1. Mahomes threw 5 touchdowns on a bad Cardinals defence but also picked them apart. Thursday against the Chargers will be a spectacle in the AFC West.
Jacksonville 22 Washington 28
Who thought Carson Wentz would get revenge on Jacksonville in Week 1 on their bingo card? I still believe in Trevor Lawrence and the Jags to contend in the division which is more you can say than most years.
Philadelphia 38 Detroit 35
In this game, I left feeling good about both teams. The Eagles managed to hold on after building a big lead and the Lions clawed their way back.
Las Vegas 19 LA Chargers 24
The Chargers in the second half disappeared offensively but still managed to win so I'm monitoring that. Davante Adams hasn't missed a step but the rest of the Raiders need to catch up.
NY Giants 21 Tennessee 20
Saquon Barkley is back, the Brian Daboll era starts with a W and here comes a shocker a kicker missed a kick this week and his team lost.
Cleveland 26 Carolina 24
When a rookie kicker is lining up for a 59-yard field goal on a day when the most established kickers were missing I felt good about my Panthers +1.5 bet. Shoutout Cade York and the Browns look like a good team and will get back a certain controversial QB.
Pittsburgh 23 Cincinnati 20 F/OT
Best game of Sunday easily. So many missed kicks. Can we get Evan McPherson a different long snapper? Why didn't they after the missed extra point? Burrow looked rough and the super bowl hangover might be apparent for both sides.
